June is Pride Month, but social media news seems to share a colorful spotlight with our LGBTQ+ friends. This month, Facebook launches an independent publishing platform, Twitter starts its application for Ticket Spaces and Super Followers, Pinterest receives a transparency certification, Snapchat seals license for an expanded music library, and Youtube steps up privacy policies for unlisted videos.
All of the hottest updates are only here at Tulumi’s June 2021 social media roundup.
Facebook Introduces ‘Bulletin’ for Independent Writers
Independent writers in the US will like Facebook’s new independent publishing platform called ‘Bulletin.’ This platform aims to provide creators and independent publishers the publishing and subscription tools they need to do their craft. Whether it’s written or spoken content, Bulletin is complete from writing to podcast tools plus live audio rooms.
Bulletin creators will have a standalone website in their brand and complete editorial independence. Subscriptions will be under Facebook Pay, and creators will keep the subscription for the length of the partnership. Moreover, Bulletin content will also be available in Facebook News for a wider reach.
Twitter Opens Its Doors for Ticketed Spaces and Super Followers
In recent months, Twitter announced new monetization opportunities for Twitter creators through Ticketed Spaces and Super Followers. Now, the social media giant is opening its applications for the first of accounts to enjoy these new features. With Ticketed Spaces, you can set ticket prices from $1 to $999 and control the number of audiences you let in the space. It can be 100 or 5, depending on what’s your end goal in mind.
Moreover, Super Followers aim to provide creators with monthly revenues and provide bonus content to Super Followers. Twitter influencers can set pricing for this exclusive feature at $2.99, $4.99, and $9.99 per month.
Pinterest Bags TAG Brand Safety Certification
Pinterest receives a brand safety certification called Trustworthy Accountability Group (TAG). This certification puts Pinterest in a good light as TAG certificates signify that the social media site has exemplified a trustworthy and transparent digital brand advertising system. It only means that Pinterest has followed industry best practices in protecting its users and partners in preventing inappropriate ad placements.
A TAG certification makes Pinterest attractive to advertisers due to the prestigious background of this certification. Pinterest’s efforts to create a safe and healthy place for advertisers and users are the main driving effort they received this coveted certification.
Snapchat Signs with the Universal Music Group
Do you want more music for your Snaps? Well, Snapchat has got you. Snapchat signs a licensing agreement with Universal Music Group (UMG), the world’s leading music company. With this deal signed, Snapchat users can add songs of UMG artists via its Sounds library. In the past, Snapchat has offered the same to music companies like Warner and Sony.
Now with UMG in the table, Snapchat has responded aggressively to its rising competitor TikTok. The expanded music library of Snapchat is a direct response to TikTok’s popularity in dance and music, hoping that users will enjoy a wide array of famous songs on their Snaps. Snapchat’s Spotlight is also in the making, and the expanded music library probably is the missing puzzle piece for Snapchat’s champion against its rival TikTok.
Youtube Changes Policy Regarding Unlisted Videos
Youtube is taking privacy matters seriously as it announced that unlisted videos in 2017 and below would be marked as private. Unlisted videos don’t appear on the search results but can be opened with the appropriate link. This change will take effect on July 23, 2021.
Before the update takes effect, Youtube urges you to opt-out from the update, make unlisted videos public, or re-upload unlisted videos. For more information, visit the official blog entry of Youtube regarding this matter.
